Shanghai baby Shanghai

So I've arrived in Shanghai and as everything is ever changing in this city, I've once again set out to re-learn the city! Its strange knowing a place without really knowing it..

For the quick update, then I have found an apartment which I am sharing with two other girls (Linda and Frida - both Swedish). And we're living in the French Concession area which is a nice semi-quiet area amongst the 18 million people living in Shanghai. Its nice (keep in mind, Chinese style nice) and big (about 140 sq. meters) and with time it will feel like home as at the moment its just filled with suitcases and other bags.

My second week at GN ReSound has just begun and things are starting to get more interesting and serious too... Just to sum up, then I'm in for one hell of an experience. My area of work deals with having direct contact with a Chinese government organisation in establishing and initating hearing aid projects through out China. And so far, my first meeting with the President of the this Gov. Organisation consisted of us spending a day in Xiamen sight-seeing - whereafter my boss just looked at me and said "this is the Chinese way of doing business with the Gov. ...very slow process". I guess for some, time isn't money...

Anyways, I'm alive and well!

'semi' last day of 2005

Having written the title, some of you out there may be thinking- umm Benna, today is not the last day of 2005 but that rather tomorrow is the last day of 2005.. And I have to admit, that you are all very right! But what I mean is that today, frday the 30th of dec. is the last 'real' day of 2005. Tomorrow doesn't really count because it is a day known as 'new years eve day'.. Where as today does not have any special name or meaning- its just plain old Dec. 30th- see my point..? ;-)

Sooo, its new years eve day tomorrow- I wonder what the new year will bring for us all? I don't have any large requests- just that my exams will go well. Uni has been SO kind to place our first verbal exam on Jan. 3rd- Thanks, for nothing! But hey, I guess I could look on the bright side because there always is a bright side.. hihi. The sooner the exam, the sooner its over and done with.

I hope that you all (Icelandic family) have a really good new years eve, where ever you may be in the world this year around! I will make sure to send you all a good thought when (or just after..) the long and short hand pass midnight! Take care all!

Christmas time.. JUHUU!

I looove Christmas- I must admit it! Although it seems like theres a 'disliking Christmas' trend going around which I personally think it wrong!

Let me explain..

People who go around saying that they hate Christmas and everything that follows with it (whether it be the stress at work and home, all the money used on buying gifts, the drag of having the extented family over for more than the usual couple of hours once a month, and not to mention the REDNESS everywhere...) are also the people who end up decorating their homes and most likely end up going all the way when it comes to Christmas preperations..

So, to me it sounds like people are just saying how much they dislike Christmas to be one of the coool kids on the block- but thats where they've gone wrong.. Because as I see it, they probably love it just as much as all the 'normal' people around. And besides, whats the point in being a 'closet Christmas liker'?? I'm not- i'm out of the closet and proud to say that I LOOVE Christmas!

Having said that.. I would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas! I hope that all your dreams, wishes, and hopes may be fulfilled!

Sushi time

A couple of pictures of Matti and I making sushi. It was a first for the both of us. I've often had sushi from a restaurant which is just yummy. But it was actually a pretty cool experience being able to make it and of course eat it too.. There was no raw fish involved- too expensive to buy for a uni student. Only for special occations.

Wednesday wednesday..

I'm not really the most popular kid on the block with bloggin'. I guess it could have something to do with looong periods where my bloggin' stands still.. what can i say..!?!

Its Wednesday, my 'day off' from classes at uni athough that doesn't mean I'm free to do whatever. But I would be lying if I said that I spent every Wednesday with my eyes fixed on my chinese books, financial accounting or AEOC books.. Wednesday is a good day to sleep past 7 in the morning, spend some time reading the newspaper and then to hit the books for a while. But best of all is to end the day meeting a friend or with a little window shopping (and hey, who am I to blame if I end up buying something little- a girl has got her needs).

As for the plan for today, I've already managed to sleep in a bit and read the newspaper. So now I've moved up to the next step- STUDYING!

Project is FINITO

Finally after almost 3 months we've finished our first year project. It has been a really process but I am also very glad that its over and done with (well, at least the writing part. We have an oral exam on the 21st and the it will be completely finito!!)

We took a weekend trip with the group to finish off the project and we ended up going to Egevangen (home to mums and pops!). It was really nice being home again, although not that relaxing. We were up in the mornings at 9-10 and worked all day and evening until 2-3 am when people started to go brain freeze and decieded to go to sleep. But I'm telling you, we sure did bond well despite the agruements and semi-harsh comments that appeared once in a while.

Now its just relaxing time for the next couple of days before I begin on my next little project- studying for my writen chinese exam- and then its SUMMER BREAK!!! Juhuu!!

first day of sweeeet summer

uhhhh, i'm lovin' the daily signs of summer! Today it was 26 degrees- completely crazy but wonderful! I only wish that I had had time to be outside but that will have to be another day. We're in the middle of writing our first year project that has to be finished in 2 weeks.

We're writing about the Asian Financial crisis that hit in 1997 (mainly focusing on Thailand because it was there that it hit first) and comparing that with the financial crisis in Argentina in 2001/2002. The reason for chosing those two countries is because of the IMF intervention which turned out not to be all that successful. Its really interesting and the more I read the more I realize that the judgements that I had in the beginning were quite off.. Finishing within the next 2 weeks shouldn't be too big of a problem as long as the 2 'mamma sans' of the group (that being Helle and myself) keep the guys on track. They have a way of loosing track of time and contineously saying- ohh, later.. we'll do that later... - ;-)

Having said that, mamma san nr.2 better get back to work.

Sunday afternoon

Here I am, sitting at work waiting for the phones to ring although sometimes I wish that they wouldn't because some people can be so nasty! I work for a real estate company every sunday from 10 til 5 pm. Its actually a really good job because it gives me loads of time to study (doesn't that just sound intelligent), plus they give free lunch and all the coke and juice I can drink. Not bad, huh! It can sometimes shock me though, the number of people who have excessively large amounts of money looking to buy apartments and houses at the highest and craziest prices..

A friend of mine is studying to become a nurse and she invited me to their annual nurse party last friday. It was lots of fun with a live band and what not. Although it did surprise me that I did not meet one other nurse there. I spoke to a brunch of new people and not one of them was studying to become a nurse- they were either studying economy, social sciences, to become a teacher and so on.. I am almost 100 % sure that we went to the right party, it was held at her school so it was probably right. But fun it was!!

up and going again

Helllooo

I've been away from the whole blogin' thing for some time but now I'm back with a new goal- to keep my blog enteries a tad bit more consecutive.. :-)

Half of the IS/DK family are back in DK, me in Copenhagen and the other 2 in Sorø. The plane ride went super- we got on the plane, fell asleep straight away and woke up 30 minutes before landing. It was wonderful!

It was so nice being home in Iceland again and being able to come along to Raggy's birthday party. That was good fun- and I now know where I've gotten my dancing bug in me from.. hint hint! hihi

I'd better get back to my chinese characters. I have my last bi-weekly written chinese test tomorrow. What a relief it will be when its over..

my iBook is off to Holland without me...

So now my iBook is off to Holland. There is something wrong with the left hand side of the keyboard- its still completely usable but makes an unusal noise and considering that the computer is SO new this shouldn't be the case at all. So I nicely called the guy at Apple Support and without a problem told me that a UPS man would come by today and put up the computer. Its really cool because Apple Support has a 90 day FREE support service where I can toll-free call them and ask for help as well as if anything needs to be done they come and pick up the computer and send it to Holland to get fixed. (The reason why its Holland is because thats the only repair center for Apple in the world.) My biggest issue is now that my iBook will be gone for anywhere between 5 to 10 working days and in 2 weeks I have a big report which is due in school. Oh well, i'll survive!

Having said this, I won't be able to write anything on my blog page- but fear not, I will be back with plenty of details from the Sting concert that I'm going to thursday the 9th, as well as all the crazy Christmas parties and god knows what else!

so this is what its all about- bloggin'..

Not only is this my first blog posting but I'm also writing from my very new laptop computer- an iBook G4 from Mac and I love my new little baby!!

I just wanted to test it out and play a bit around with it, to see what its all about. Although I should be going through my chinese books for tomorrows class. Oh well, i still have tomorrow before lunch to do so.
